We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational resource and research organization dedicated to the science of paleontology. We have had an interest in paleontology for many years, but early on we discovered the degree to which the science was considered “hands off” when it came to the involvement of the general public. Although there has always been great public interest in the science, there were few opportunities for the public to participate in a meaningful way. Determined to change the status quo, PWRF was established in 2000 with one simple mission:
“To bring the science of paleontology to people of all ages and backgrounds through hands-on discovery”

Since our inception, we are proud to report that we have given hundreds of people from every walk of life the opportunity to participate in genuine paleontological expeditions. Our participants do not require any previous training or special educational background. As long as you have an inquisitive mind, an interest in dinosaurs and a sense of adventure you are the perfect candidate for our expeditions! As the saying goes, “no experience required”! Over the years, we have discovered that our program offers wonderful opportunities for families, students, teachers and everyone young and old alike to learn about some of the most awe-inspiring creatures to ever inhabit the earth – dinosaurs!

Our domestic expeditions take place at our U.S. base camp located in eastern Montana. We also offer international adventures at various sites accessible by our partners in China. Our Montana experience takes you to a fossil-rich area known as the Hell Creek Formation situated near the small town of Jordan that some call the “Dinosaur Capital of the World”.

Make no mistake – our program is NOT a tour! Our adventures offer a true “hands-on” experience for all participants. Upon joining our expedition, you are given the opportunity to learn about actual field techniques used by dinosaur hunters around the world. Working side-by-side with our paleontologist and assistants, you’ll learn about identifying fossils, how to collect and protect them for transport, and how to prepare and preserve them for future study. Imagine the possibility of being the first human being on earth to see and touch a 65 million year-old piece of history!
